Only affects images uploaded AFTER the filter is active. Existing images keep the quality they were encoded at until you regenerate them. And note the preview above is your browser's JPEG encoder, not your server's — the artefacts are representative, the byte counts are not.

Every JPEG you upload is re-encoded at quality 82 by default. That is fine for photos and visibly bad for screenshots and flat graphics. This generates the filter to change it, with a live preview of what each quality level costs.

Welke JPEG-kwaliteit gebruikt WordPress standaard?

82. Elke JPEG die je uploadt wordt op die kwaliteit herencodeerd, en elk afgeleid formaat dat WordPress ervan genereert ook. Het is een redelijke standaard voor foto's en een zichtbaar slechte voor screenshots, logo's en vlakke graphics — die hebben harde randen en geen fotografische ruis om compressie-artefacten in te verbergen.

Moet ik de JPEG-kwaliteit op 100 zetten?

Nee. Boven ongeveer 92 koop je bestandsgrootte in plaats van zichtbare kwaliteit, en 100 kan het bestand verdrievoudigen voor een verschil dat niemand opmerkt. Als je afbeeldingen screenshots of UI-graphics zijn, is 88–92 de verstandige range.

Herstelt dit wijzigen afbeeldingen die ik al heb geüpload?

Nee. De filter geldt voor afbeeldingen die worden verwerkt nadat hij actief is. Bestaande afbeeldingen houden de kwaliteit waarmee ze zijn gecodeerd totdat je ze opnieuw uploadt of thumbnails opnieuw genereert met een plugin of 'wp media regenerate'.
